Truly Asia.
after spending my provisional months in vj, i was commenting that the transport system in the east is a mess. i am abt to take that back.
besides the fact that the msian govt provides subsidies to proton, taxes the competing imports, and froze its currency, it also gives petronas the full attorney to mess around with road signs. i reckon we spent more time trying to get out of malacca than actually speinding time in it. you see, the road signs were strategically designed to direct foriegn cars to first circle the entire town before hitting the highway. i swear, its an evil ploy by petronas to get you to buy more fuel. now, while that is really respectably cunning, what petronas doesnt realise is that crude oil is a finite resource and no amt of revenue earned by misleading cars to tour you're ancient town and later running out of fuel and hence having to buy it from the sole provider of fuel isnt going to make the little crude oil we have left in the world last any longer. anyone can recognize that.
trust me, i didnt want to go to -of all places- malacca. in fact, the only song that came to my head than was 'take me home'. and i sorely wanted to. we came to msia for certain reasons, important enough for me to have gone. but now that the primary aim had been accomplished, we really ought to have gone home. my folks said they didnt have much of a holiday. for crying out loud, we didnt go north to enjoy a holiday. its only a week break, and any seasoned singaporean wld know that a one week break isnt a break at all. its actually a pretend and more of an excuse for teachers to pile us up with more work since we supposedly have more time. and even if we wanted a holiday, why of all places malacca? malacca, do you read me?
my dad's just jealous that i had my ol' mp3 player to keep me company throughout. that and te fact that i could slumber as and wehn i liked. so, while i was snoozing off peacefully, he sneakily exited at malacca. obviously he became another victim of petronas.
so on the way back, i darent take my attention of the road, for fear that the car might take ventures to other lands where no man has been before. and i happened to comment on a wooden house along the detour of malacca, saying that you'd never find such a sight in singapore. and my mom did what all mom's do best -
"30 YEARS AGO" !?!
sigh.
"30 years ago, when i was you're age, this is the kind of hard life we had to live in. and we didnt have busses to take us to schl, we had to walk that 5 clicks or so..."
right. and so, 30 years from now, i'd be telling my grandchildren that 30 years back than, we lived in utter hardship. while they get to use the teleport system to get wherever they want instantly, i had to take the bus. you know, long box on wheels that operates on fuel, and it doesnt take off from the ground, it slides on the road and it actually stops at most of the stops, easily tripling the potential amt of time takes. (i used 'tripling' cuz i'm not sure of the word that means 10 times)
all in the context of time. and technology, being technology, increases exponentially. and besdies, why is it alwasy the walking to schl thing. for goodness sake, i'm talking abt the wooden house! not you're wooden bridge that crossed the 5 km of rivers and valleys.
"oooh, but you musnt disregard the poor. you have superiority complex, you musnt be proud."
superiority complex??? proud??? i'm just counting my blessings dude, just like you want me to.
argh.
i dont really mean all this stuff. its just that the pessimist in me has to surface once in a while.
i'll blog abt choice is reserved for those with power and mutual sacrifice later.
aiyah, i was reckless and bored what.
